My Top Ten Christmas Movies
10. The Family Stone : The name doesn't indicate anything about Christmas, but this film is seasonal gem. It's about a woman's first Christmas with the chaotic family of her future fiance. Needless to say she's nervous and their antics do little to put her at ease. It has a lovely twist and a sad misfortune, which helps to bring them all together, further cementing the theme of family coming together for the season.
9.Mom for Christmas: This is another one of my favorites I used to watch this every year on the Disney Channel and I never got tired of it. It's about a little girl that wishes for a mom and finds it in the form of Mannequin(Olivia Newton John) which comes alive(I know cheesy). I loved it still, of course it has a little romance from the blossoming affection between the father and this doe eyed stranger that has come into their lives. I Know watching it now I'll see it differently but
back then it was one of my Christmas rituals.
8. All I Want for Christmas: This was about a brother and sister from divorced parents who wanted nothing more than to see their parents together again. What I loved about this one was that there was no magic or miracles, this was a wish they had to make happen themselves. How they went about doing it was nothing short of funny and made for an enjoyable film.
7. The Preacher's Wife: A beautiful film about a preacher who's so focused on his job that he neglects and is in jeopardy of losing his family. God sends an angel (Denzil Washington) who's sole task is to help repair and fix the almost broken family bond. This is one of the few films that focuses solely on the reason for the season, and it even has a christian theme. The music and singing was wonderful, of course with Whitney starring how could we expect anything less.
6.The Nativity Story: This movie as the name suggests tells the story of Jesus Christ's birth, from Mary and Joseph's courtship until the time of delivery. I thought it was a beautiful story and a very honest telling of what it must have been like for a young Mary and Joseph. It doesn't have all the usual themes of most Christmas films, there is no snow, no Christmas tree nevertheless it was a great story.
